A Month of Football, A Decade of Impact: HNP's 10th Anniversary Tournament

As you might remember from our previous newsletter, the Human Needs Project celebrated its 10th anniversary in grand style by organizing a month-long football tournament in Kibera.

Now, it's time to reflect and take stock!

8 Female Teams & 24 Male Teams

10,000 Spectators Attended the Final Match

A Full Month of Football and Celebration!

Each match was more than just a game; it was a mini-festival that brought the entire community together.

Football Fuels Economic Growth in Kibera

The recent Human Needs Project football tournament served as a major economic catalyst for the Kibera community, attracting a diverse audience and providing a significant boost to local businesses. Food, drink, and merchandise vendors thrived as each match drew crowds of at least 2,000 spectators.

"I’ve never seen so many people at one event in Kibera. It allowed us to sell out our entire stock of fresh juice every game day.” Irine Nyawakara, local fresh juice vendor

Recognizing this potential, the willingness of these business owners to join the SACCO reflects a growing understanding of the importance of financial planning and investment for long-term prosperity.

A Triumphant End to the HNP Football Tournament

Throughout the tournament, participants from both the men’s and women’s categories demonstrated remarkable skill and dedication. At the grand finale, all winning teams were honored with trophies. Special team awards were also presented, including the coveted title of the Most Disciplined Team, while individual players shone in categories such as Best Goalkeeper and Best Player in both men’s and women’s divisions.
